Turkey's energy regulator has granted state energy company BOTAS a 10-year import licence for Russian LNG 🤝, adding to existing long-term agreements with Algeria and Oman.
The timing is significant. Turkey's pipeline gas contract with Iran expires in July, with no renewal talks currently underway ❌. Russian LNG is one piece of the supply puzzle Turkey is assembling to cover that gap.
This is part of a broader Turkish strategy: less pipeline dependence, more flexible LNG from multiple sources 💧.

Details are emerging on Senegal's first LNG import terminal. South Korean technology provider GasEntec has signed contracts 🤝 with Senegalese energy company Elton Logistics and Services to deliver a jetty-based regasification unit and onshore equipment for the Dakar LNG Terminal.
West Africa is building out LNG import infrastructure at pace 🏭. Senegal joins a growing list of markets investing in dedicated import capacity as energy security concerns sharpen.

The European Union’s 20th sanctions package is tightening pressure directly on Russia’s LNG sector, targeting both exports and supporting infrastructure 🚨
New measures include a ban on maintenance services for Russian LNG carriers and icebreakers, limiting the country’s ability to sustain and operate its LNG fleet ⚠️
In addition, restrictions on LNG terminal services will allow EU operators to exit contracts, further constraining Russia’s access to key export routes and infrastructure 💧

Argentina’s FSRU at the Escobar terminal is set to receive a new LNG cargo from Naturgy following a recent international tender 🤝
The cargo will help replenish gas stocks ahead of peak winter demand, ensuring supply stability for residential consumption and grid reliability ⚠️
This highlights the continued role of FSRUs in providing flexible and fast-response LNG supply to balance seasonal demand in Argentina 💧

🚢 LNGShips
Four LNG carriers sold by Oman's Asyad Shipping in January 2026 have surfaced again, now sailing under the Russian flag with new names: Orion, Kosmos, Merkuriy, and Luch 🚢.
All four spent roughly three months under the Indian Register of Shipping before transferring to the Russian flag on 1 April 📘. Most went through three name changes, each made on the first of the month from February onward.
The vessels are Moss-type carriers built in 2006. The pattern, rapid renamings, flag changes, brief intermediate registry, is one the industry recognises. These ships are now part of Russia's expanding shadow LNG fleet 📈.

GAIL (India) has deployed its newly time-chartered LNG carrier Energy Fidelity for its first U.S. cargo, marking a new step in its shipping strategy 🚢
The 174,000 cbm vessel loaded LNG from Cheniere Energy’s Sabine Pass terminal and is now heading to India, strengthening U.S.–India LNG trade flows 💧
This move highlights India’s continued push to secure long-term LNG supply while expanding control over shipping logistics and fleet deployment 📈

With the Strait of Hormuz effectively closed to LNG traffic and QatarEnergy LNG under force majeure, a large portion of Nakilat’s fleet is now sitting idle across key regions 🌏
Out of 70 LNG carriers, 44 vessels (~9.4 million m³ capacity) are concentrated in four main holding clusters, highlighting the scale of disruption to global LNG flows 🚨
Fleet positioning breakdown 👇
• Persian Gulf: 6 laden tankers (~1.2M m³) + 1 ballast vessel
• West India / Pakistan: 9 ballast vessels (~2.0M m³)
• Southwest India / Sri Lanka: 21 ballast vessels (~4.7M m³), including multiple Q-Max ships
• Off Malaysia: 7 ballast vessels (~1.3M m³), some slowly repositioning

Russia’s sanctioned, explosion-damaged LNG carrier Arctic Metagaz has broken free from a tow line in the Mediterranean 🚨.
The Libyan Ports & Maritime Transport Authority (LPMA) issued an urgent navigational circular warning that the 138,000-cbm, 2003-built vessel was adrift 120 nautical miles (220 km) to the north of the city of Benghazi 🌊, after the line snapped in poor weather on 22 April.
Efforts were being made to reconnect the tow line.

GasLog Partners is selling its last steam-turbine LNG carrier, marking the end of an era for its fleet 🚨
The 145,000 cbm Methane Rita Andrea (built 2006) is now held for sale, with the buyer yet to be disclosed ⚠️
This move reflects the ongoing phase-out of older steam turbine LNG vessels, as the industry shifts toward more efficient and modern propulsion technologies 💧

Pakistan is importing its first spot LNG cargo in two years — and the route it is taking tells you everything about what the Strait of Hormuz closure has done to global LNG trade. The vessel Seapeak Magellan loaded cargo at a price of $18.4 per MMBtu. 🗺️
Rather than transit the Gulf, the cargo is sailing around the Cape of Good Hope — approximately 15,000 nautical miles. That detour adds weeks to the voyage and significant cost to every molecule delivered. 🌍
It is a stark illustration of how the closure is reshaping LNG logistics. Routes that were theoretical are now operational. The cost of distance is being repriced in real time.

🏗 LNGShipbuilding
GTT has received an order from Samsung Heavy Industries’ shipyard for the tank design of two 2️⃣ new LNG carriers on behalf of Celsius Tankers, the shipowner.
✅ The French player claims that each vessel, with a capacity of 180,000 cubic meters (cbm) 💧, will feature its cryogenic tanks.
✅ These tanks will be fitted with the Mark III Flex membrane containment system. The delivery of the vessels is expected between the second and third quarters of 2028 🎊.

Hanwha Ocean posted a first-quarter earnings surprise — and LNG carriers are why. Operating profit for Q1 2026 rose 70.6% year-on-year to 441 billion won ($300 million). The order book is strong, and LNG newbuilds are doing the heavy lifting. ⚓
The shipyard secured 54 ships worth $6.5 billion in new orders during the quarter, putting it well ahead of its $13 billion annual target with three quarters still to go. 📈

LNG carrier orders are bouncing back in 2026 — and the numbers are striking. 35 new LNG carrier builds were contracted in Q1 2026 alone. For context, only 37 were ordered across all of 2025. 📊
The market is responding to demand that had been building for years. With over 100 carriers already confirmed for delivery this year and orders accelerating, the shipbuilding pipeline is running at a pace not seen since the last LNG boom. 🏭

Shipyards are on track to deliver up to 100 LNG carriers this year — up 27% from the 79 delivered in 2025. The pipeline of newbuilds contracted over the past three years is now coming through. 🚢
Among the names mentioned in active fleet expansion: ADNOC, QatarEnergy, and a range of independent operators building out their positions ahead of long-term offtake commitments. 📈

💧 LNGBunkering
FortisBC has completed its 10,000th LNG refuelling event for marine vessels at the Port of Vancouver — a milestone ten years in the making since operations began in 2016.
Over the past year alone, FortisBC recorded Canada's first ship-to-ship LNG transfer, the first LNG transfer to a car carrier, and the first cruise ship bound for Alaska fuelled with LNG.
British Columbia is quietly building one of the most active LNG bunkering hubs on the Pacific coast — and this milestone marks how far that infrastructure has come.

Golden Pass LNG has successfully loaded and shipped its first LNG export cargo from Sabine Pass, Texas 🚢
The project is a joint venture between QatarEnergy and ExxonMobil ⚠️
This milestone marks the transition toward full commercial operations, with additional trains under construction ❗
Once fully operational, the terminal is expected to export ~18 million tons per year, strengthening global LNG supply 💧
