How the LNG ship controls the excess of Boil-Off Gas BOG ❓

The excess of BOG inside LNG Ship cargo tanks is controlled by :

  • Engines consumption → Diesel Engine or Steam Turbine

  • Gas Combustion Unit GCU → Diesel Engine

  • Dumping → Steam Turbine

  • Reliquifaction plant → When installed onboard

  • Venting to the atmosphere → For safety only 🚫

  • Return to terminal → When alongside

Sentinel-2 spotted CCH Gas near Hong Kong, looks like it’s been there since at least Nov. 24 🚢, according to Kpler data analysts.

Back in late October, CCH Gas teamed up for an STS LNG transfer with the sanctioned Russian “dark fleet” tanker Perle offshore Malaysia ⚓, with the latter laden with LNG from the also-sanctioned Portovaya LNG terminal 💧 in the Baltic Sea.

Then CCH Gas disappeared, while Perle made its way back to Portovaya LNG. The discovery of CCH Gas was further complicated by cloudy weather 💭 on flyover days over the area.

BW's recently ordered large liquefied natural gas carriers are expected to feature three LNG tanks instead of four, marking an industry first 🥇

The switch from four tanks to three in a new LNG carrier design from GTT could reduce voyage-based emissions by up to 27% 📉.

The 200,000 cu m LNG design will trade at lower service speeds and will reduce unit freight costs by 5.5% from the outset📉 , and by 14% by mid-century under regulatory frameworks including the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS) and FuelEU Maritime 📉.
