MISC Berhad says it could lay up some of its LNG carriers as the outlook for the market remains bleak for the rest of the year 🚨.

Charter rates “are expected to remain soft through 2025 📉, primarily due to continued robust fleet expansion and subdued tonne-mile demand”.

The Malaysian owner is “actively exploring strategic options 📊, including vessel lay-ups and redeployment opportunities for vessels that are currently off charter”.

A gas carrier in service of Russia’s sanctioned Arctic LNG 2 project 🔴 has docked at a Chinese import terminal for the first time, ending more than a year of uncertainty for one of Moscow’s most ambitious energy ventures 🔥

The 79,800-cbm Russian-flagged 👉 Arctic Mulan moored up at the Beihai LNG terminal in Guangxi province in southern China just before 5am UTC on August 28 📅.

The apparent delivery, carried by a vessel from Russia’s so-called “shadow fleet,” ⚫ suggests a potential shift in Beijing’s willingness to accept sanctioned Russian gas. It could also signal a softening of Washington’s position against Russian energy projects 📉.

The UAE’s Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) has signed a long-term liquefied natural gas (LNG) sales and purchase agreement (SPA) 🤝 with the state-owned Indian Oil Corporation.

The 15-year deal entails the supply of 1 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of LNG 💧 sourced primarily from ADNOC’s lower-carbon Ruwais LNG project 🏗. This turns a previous heads of agreement (HoA) between the duo into a definitive agreement.

Under the terms of the SPA, LNG cargoes can be delivered to any port across India ⚓, which the UAE player believes will support the country’s growing energy needs and enhance its energy security.
