On the ballast voyage, an LNG ship must maintain her cargo tanks in cold state 📉 (Membrane -130°C / Moss -110°C) depending on the charterer's requirements using the LNG quantity 💧 retained after discharging “Heel quantity”.
Maintaining the cold state allows the ship to start loading at the terminal on arrival and, reducing port time 🕔 and turn-round to a minimum. It will also determine the load procedure required at the terminal.
If the loading is delayed or the ship was asked to heel out (discharge all her cargo), cool-down of cargo tanks is carried out alongside with LNG supplied from terminal 🏭.
Under no circumstances ❌, an LNG ship commences loading with cargo tanks temperature above the manufacturer requirements.
