Asian liquefied natural gas imports have dropped to the lowest in almost six years 🚨 as the conflict in the Middle East chokes supplies and forces buyers to curb consumption.
The 30-day moving average of net shipments to the region fell below 600,000 tons 💧 over the weekend, the least since June 2020, that was when the Covid pandemic slashed gas demand across Asia.

Russian energy giant Gazprom has delivered a second post-sanctions LNG cargo 💧 from the Baltic Sea's Portovaya plant to China
Gas carrier Valera, formerly known as Velikiy Novgorod, loaded the cargo at the Baltic Sea plant on January 25 and delivered it to the Beihai LNG terminal 🏭.
Exports from the plant have been interrupted by additional U.S. sanctions 🚫 over the Ukraine war that were imposed in January 2025 to disrupt Russia's ability to produce and export LNG and reduce its revenue from the trade.

European energy companies are eyeing purchases of Canadian liquefied natural gas in search of supply diversification in challenging times
The report concerned a planned LNG export terminal, Ksi Lisim 🏭, which has yet to get a final approval and move to construction. The facility will involve a floating production vessel with the capacity to produce some 12 million tons of liquefied natural gas annually 💧.
One of the potential buyers of Canadian LNG is Germany's Uniper 🤝.

QatarEnergy has resumed production at its Ras Laffan LNG complex following a temporary shutdown linked to heightened regional tensions in the Persian Gulf. The restart brings one of the world's largest LNG production hubs back online, easing concerns over sustained supply disruptions.
The Ras Laffan complex accounts for the bulk of Qatar's LNG export capacity — around 77 million tonnes per year, the second-largest in the world. Any prolonged outage would have had significant knock-on effects for buyers in Europe and Asia who depend heavily on Qatari cargoes.

Singapore's GasCo is ramping up LNG procurement after the Iran-Israel conflict disrupted supply routes, cutting flows from the Middle East. The state-owned gas aggregator has moved quickly to secure alternative cargoes, prioritising supply security for the city-state's power and industrial sectors.
The procurement push comes as Singapore — one of Southeast Asia's largest LNG consumers — faces tighter spot availability following the Strait of Hormuz disruptions. GasCo is in talks with multiple Atlantic Basin suppliers to bridge the supply gap.
