🏭 LNGTerminals

Southern Energy (SESA) has committed to charter Golar LNG’s 3.5 million tonnes per annum 💭 MK II floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) vessel for its Southern Energy LNG export project in Argentina 📍.

The key commercial terms for the 20-year deal include net charter hire to Golar of 💰400 million per year, plus a commodity-linked tariff component of 25% of free on board (FOB) prices in excess of 💰8 per million British thermal units.

The MK II FLNG will be moored in the San Matias Gulf near Golar’s Hilli FLNG, which is expected to start its own 20-year charter with SESA during 2027 📅. Combined, the two units have nameplate capacity of 5.95 million tpa 💭.

US LNG producer Cheniere Energy plans to expand its production 🚀 across both its sites to the maximum capacity to give it over 100 million tonnes 💧 per annum of output capacity.

On the regulatory front, they will seek to permit 🎯 the maximum site capabilities for both the company’s Sabine Pass and Corpus Christi projects.

The Canadian government is looking hard at developing a remote northern port on Hudson Bay 🌎 as a conduit for exporting natural gas, potash, canola and other commodities 💧 as the country tries to reduce its economic dependence on the US.

🚢 LNGShips

GasLog has completed the sale of an 18-year-old 🤝, steam turbine-driven LNG carrier, setting a new price for secondhand vessels of this vintage 💵.

It agreed to sell the 145,576-cbm 👉 Methane Alison Victoria (built 2007) in June for 💰27m.

The sale was completed on 15 July, resulting in an impairment loss of $29.1m 📉 as of 30 June.

Maran Gas has reportedly secured improved daily rates 🤝 for a modern LNG carrier chartered on a short-term basis by Spanish energy major Repsol.

The 2024-built, 174,210-m³ Maran Gas Kimolos has been fixed for approximately 150 days 📅 at a daily rate in the mid-to-high 💰40,000s, with delivery scheduled for 14 October in the US Gulf 📍.

Maran Gas Kimolos features advanced ME-GI propulsion, allowing for lower gas consumption and minimal methane slip 📉. The vessel is also equipped with energy-saving technologies, including shaft generators and an air-lubrication system 💡.

A fourth sanctioned liquefied natural gas tanker has arrived near Russia’s Arctic export plant 🏭, also subject to the US restrictions, as Moscow attempts to expand shipments of the fuel 💧

The Christophe de Margerie was close to the Utrenniy terminal of the Arctic LNG 2 facility as of early Saturday 🕔.

The ice-class LNG vessel was sanctioned in January 🚨 as part of the most aggressive restrictions imposed on Russia’s energy sector.

Excelerate Energy has confirmed it purchased the 2007-built, steam-powered liquefied natural gas carrier 👉 Methane Alison Victoria from Greece’s GasLog Partners in July and will be converting the LNG carrier into an FSRU 🚢.

The LNG carrier will become the company’s first owned vessel 🥇 to undergo a conversion to a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU)

Once its conversion is complete, the renamed 👉 Excelerate Shenandoah FSRU will be used in conjunction with an Atlantic Basin supply deal 💧

🏗 LNGShipbuilding

New Chinese entrant China Bunker has joined the LNG bunkering sector 💧 with an order for up to two vessels 🚢.

The Shanghai-based company has signed a contract with Dalian Shipbuilding Offshore Co (DSOC) 🤝 for one 20,000 cu m LNG bunkering vessel, with an option for a second. Pricing and delivery dates have not been disclosed 🚫.

The 138-m-long bunkering vessel will be China’s first of its kind to be independently developed with a membrane-type cargo containment system 🏢, designed to meet the latest IMO environmental standards and serve LNG-fuelled ships at major international ports 🔥.

Santos extended the period of exclusive due diligence to an international consortium 📘 led by Abu Dhabi's National Oil Company (ADNOC), which had offered 💰18.7 billion for Australia's second biggest gas producer.

The period for exclusive due diligence has been extended until August 22 📅.

Cheniere Energy and Japanese power producer JERA have entered into a long-term liquefied natural gas (LNG) sale and purchase agreement (SPA) 🤝 that will strengthen energy security ties between the United States and Japan for decades to come 💡.

Under the agreement, JERA will purchase approximately 1.0 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of LNG 💧 from Cheniere Marketing on a free-on-board basis from 2029 through 2050 📅. The purchase price is indexed to the Henry Hub price, plus a fixed liquefaction fee 💵.

Global commodity trading group Trafigura has signed a liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply agreement 🤝 with the state-owned Indian Oil Corp (IOC).

Under the five-year agreement, Trafigura will supply 2.5 million tonnes of LNG 💧 to IOC for use at its regasification terminals across the country.

💧 LNGBunkering

Two energy majors have won the capacity at an upcoming small-scale jetty at the Gate LNG terminal in Rotterdam 🏭, which will give them a commanding LNG bunkering position in north-west Europe 📍.

TotalEnergies has been awarded 60% of the capacity and Shell 40% 📊.

It means they will be able to use their LNG bunker vessel tonnage 🚢 to take on LNG there and then supply trading LNG-fuelled vessels calling at Rotterdam or in the region.

Swiss energy producer Axpo has completed what its claims is Spain’s first ship-to-ship 🥇 bio-LNG bunkering operation for large container vessels.

Axpo used its chartered-in LNG bunker vessel, the 👉 7,500-cbm Avenir Aspiration (built 2021), to deliver over 4,000-cbm of bio-LNG 💧to the 7,327-teu CMA CGM Fort Bourbon (built 2024) at the Port of Algeciras.

Excelerate Energy is aiming to grow out its newly acquired Jamaica assets and make the island a Caribbean hub for LNG distribution and bunkering 💧.

In the medium to longer term, the company will invest in larger-scale infrastructure projects 🏗, including new power generation, terminal expansions, LNG bunkering and additional pipelines.

Excelerate is advancing a hub-and-spoke model using its floating LNG terminal in Old Harbour 🏭 as a central storage and distribution point.

Shell Marine has supplied its first bio-LNG volumes 🥇 in a ship-to-ship operation in the Port of Barcelona, Spain as it extends its supply offering of the fuel 🔥.

Its 5,000-cbm LNG bunker vessel, Haugesund Knutsen (built 2022) delivered 1,875 cbm of bio-LNG 💧 to Tui Cruises’ 3,984-berth newbuilding Mein Schiff Relax.

A.P. Moller – Maersk has added a brand-new methanol dual-fuel boxship to its fleet 🎊.

The unit, which is the second in a series of six 6️⃣, was built by South Korea’s vessel construction giant HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (HD HHI) 🏗.

The methanol-powered Beijing Maersk 🔥 boasts an overall length of 350 meters and a breadth of 56 meters. Its lightweight totals 49,800 tonnes, while the vessel’s container carrying capacity is 17,480 TEUs.

Singapore-based shipping company Pacific International Lines (PIL) has completed its first 🥇 simultaneous cargo and LNG bunkering operation.

The operation took place at PSA Singapore’s Brani Terminal, with TotalEnergies using bunkering vessel 👉 Brassavola to deliver 4,000 cubic meters (cbm) of LNG to PIL’s 8,200 TEU LNG dual-fuel containership 👉 Kota Ocean while cargo operations continued simultaneously.
